Recently, while I was spending time with family, I lost my glasses! It would have been smart of me to have a backup pair; however, those were my backup pair from breaking my glasses a year prior! The silver lining to the incident is that it finally prompted me to set up a doctor’s appointment to get new glasses. It had been about five years since I had been, so it was quite past due!
When I lost them, I was anxious about what was going to happen over the next couple of weeks. I worried about getting headaches, not being able to see, not being able to drive, and not being able to work efficiently because I couldn’t see my computer. I also tend to read lips when someone speaks to me. Without glasses, I couldn’t read lips, so it became difficult to hear what was being said to me! (That’s an odd side effect, I understand!)
My vision also seemed to get worse as the days went on! What started out as just a haze over everything ended with everything being blurred just a few inches away from my face.
I was not able to drive, watch television, read, get on my phone, or work! My lack of vision prevented me from achieving anything in my life. Others loaned me their old pairs of glasses, but since they were not fitted to my eyes, not only was I not able to see, but my vision was also worse.
For those who have never had glasses, you probably can’t fully grasp what I was going through. It wasn’t painful, but going through life with no vision meant I wasn’t able to get where I needed to go!
How’s your vision? Not your eyesight, but are you heading to where you need to go in life?
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” If you don’t know where you are heading, you’re probably going to lead a life of chaos and confusion. You will start heading in several directions; as soon as something gets hard, you’ll move. When you can’t see what is ahead of you, you can’t prepare for it.
Life is full of confusion! The devil makes it that way. He knows if he can keep your mind flooded with opinions, misinformation, stress, and temptations, you can’t keep your eyes on Christ. Psalm 119:105 tells us how to keep on the path: “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” His word is the only perfect thing we have in this world. He gives the answer to every problem, provides the solution to every issue, gives encouragement, gives power, and gives clarity. He gives you the vision to get through life.
James 1:5 says if you lack wisdom, just ask! He gives it freely! Every time it will be given to you! When he gives you that wisdom, recognize that he may give you something that contradicts everything the world says you should do! But He has called you to be separate from the world, to be a light for other people.
Take the vision that God is giving you and do what He said in Habakkuk: write it down! Go back to it every day. Remind yourself what God has told you to be and called you to do! Get alone with God, close the world out. He will take away the blurred vision you have had.
You don’t know what job you should take, where you should move, or what you should do with your life? He will provide clarity and a vision and set you on that path.
When I finally got my new glasses, I didn’t realize how poor my vision was and how much I needed to see where I was going and what I was doing.
I encourage you to get your vision checked out…Stop walking around blind!
